Tony Albrecht earned his BFA in sculpture at Webster University and an MA and MFA in painting from Fontbonne College. He has taught at Fontbonne, at UMSL and Parkway Community Centers.

Bev Aroh has worked as a studio potter in California for 20 years and at Craft Alliance for the last four years. She creates wheel thrown and altered porcelain and stoneware as well as Raku and has exhibited her work throughout the United Sates.

Dan Barnett earned a BFA in ceramics and sculpture from SIU-Edwardsville. His experience as chemist, ceramics instructor and studio technician are a great resource in his teaching at Craft Alliance. His ceramic work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and both his metal work and his clay work are in many private collections.
John Boss received his BA from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He has pieces in China, Ireland, Germany, Canada and England as well as across the United States. John also demonstrates and sells hi spottery at living history festivals. His focus is on every day functional ware and horse hair Raku.

Pam Caskanett received an MFA from Louisiana State University and a BFA from Kansas City Art Institute. She joins Craft Alliance this fall in the Ceramics studio. Caskanett has taught both children and adults all aspects of working with clay, and her work has been exhibited throughout the country.

Lisa Colby has recently returned to St. Louis, where she maintains her own jewelry and metalsmithing studio. She has taught at the Penland School of Crafts, exhibits nationally, and her works have been published in Lark Books 1,000 Rings. Lisa’s work is currently represented through Craft Alliance, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, Piedmont Craftsmen Gallery and Penland Gallery.  

Erin Cork attended the University of Missouri–Columbia, where she received a BS in Education with a certification in K-12 Art. She is continuing to pursue her interest in art as an MFA candidate in Textiles at Southern Illinois University–Edwardsville. Cork’s work utilizes found fabrics, felting and natural dying techniques to create sculptural forms.

Andrew Denney earned his BA degree from Bradford College and MFA from the R.I.T., School for American Crafts. He apprenticed with the Ohi Chozaemon family in Japan, which has made tea ceremony utensils since 1666. His ceramics have appeared in several national and international exhibitions.

Kelly Draper received a B.A. in French from Webster University. She has studied metalsmithing with Joe Muench and Jan Hessel and has shown her work at Craft Alliance and other locations throughout St. Louis.


 

Peg Fetter received her BFA in drawing from Winthrop College and her M.F.A. at Washington University under the tutelage of Heikki Seppa. Peg has for a long time exhibited her jewelry creations in the metropolitan area.

Lisa Forsyth has an MFA in textiles from SIU Edwardsville and is a fiber artist specializing in surface designed silk. She joined Craft Alliance in 2005 as an instructor in fibers and watercolor.
Adam Foster has a BFA in Metalsmithing for the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.  He is a studio metalsmith with his own company, Adam Foster Fine Art Jewelry. His main focus in jewelry is to pass along the knowledge in the craft and to contribute to the history of jewelry making.
Kim Fritts earned a BFA degree from Washington University and continued at the university in the Medical School as medical illustrator and graphic designer. Kim's ceramic pieces are well known in the area for their whimsical images drawn from folk tales, science fiction and fantasy.
Alice M. Gadel is originally from New Orleans, Louisiana. She worked as the Prop Creator for an organization called “Teaching Responsible Earth Education” for nine years, assisting with 45 different activities. Alice has lived in St. Louis since 1997, pursuing a BFA with an emphasis in Graphic Design, and is entering her senior year at the University of Missouri, St. Louis. She began teaching at Craft Alliance in 2000, and works primarily with young children in clay and two-dimensional media.

Michael Gleason received his BFA from the University of Kansas in silversmithing. He is a charter member of the Midwest Metalsmiths Society and has written articles and held workshops promoting the organization. Michael's commissions and jewelry may be seen throughout St. Louis area.
Becky Grass is working toward her MFA in textiles at Southern Illinois University, Edwardsville. She received a BFA from Southeast Missouri State University and has been teaching Weaving, Surface Design and Book Arts to undergraduates at SIUE.
Mary Henderson holds a BFA in ceramics from SIU at Edwardsville and a BA in anthropology from Beloit College. She brings to her teaching knowledge of prehistoric ceramics and technology as well as a passion for expressive work in clay. Besides teaching Mary is an artist who maintains a studio in St. Louis.

Jan Hessel has wide experience teaching metals and has been instrumental in the development of the metals program at Craft Alliance. She earned her MFA degree in Art Metals from Washington University where she studied with master goldsmith Heikki Seppa.

Renee Heyer-Starrett received her BFA in ceramics from SIU Edwardsville and is a clay artist focusing on functional pottery.  She teaches children of all ages to work with clay through handbuilding, and on the wheel.

Leslie Hickman attended the advertising-arts program at Williamsport Area Community College in Pennsylvania. She has worked as an illustrator, and in elementary education for several years. She incorporates wood, fiber weaving, wire sculpting, metals, found objects, glass, and lamp-worked beads in her designs. She has studied with Tom and Sage Holland and James Smircich.

Jurmane Hill received his Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Studio Art from Lincoln University in Jefferson City.  He has worked in elementary and middle schools teaching art for the last four years.  His work has been in numerous Lincoln University shows, and he was commissioned to do a piece for the President of Lincoln University.

Amy Hoover joins Craft Alliance this session specializing in contemporary and traditional basketry techniques. Amy exhibits her work locally and regionally and is in many private collections.

Cindy Howenstein graduated from SIU Edwardsville with a BFA in and has an AD from Forest Park CC. She has studied with Helen Shirk and has taken workshops with Chuck Evans. Cindy is represented in the Evansville Museum of Art; she sells and exhibits her jewelry and sculpture throughout the region.

Deborah Katon has her MFA and BFA in sculpture. She has studied in Rome, Italy, Sydney, Australia, and Nanjing, China. She has been blowing glass for over ten years and currently teaches a variety of the glass classes at Craft Alliance.  Her work can be seen online at www.katonstudios.com.

 

Michelle Katz-Reichlin has studied with sculptors Sue Eisler, Peter Hoell, Joe Muench and Paul Sasso. She has a BA from the Univ. of Michigan and a MSW from Washington University; her background in social work and activity therapy has led her to specialize in teaching art to children and adults with special needs.

Stefanie Jacobson Kirkland received her MFA in painting from the Academy of Art University, San Francisco, CA. She received her BFA at Syracuse University in New York and studied with Syracuse University in Florence, Italy and the American University based in Corciano, Italy. Kirkland has shown nationally and is collected privately. In addition to teaching, she is currently the Exhibitions Coordinator at Craft Alliance.
Kristin Kleyer joined Craft Alliance this past fall in the Fibers Progarm. She earned her BFA degree and K-12 Art Teaching Certification at McKendree College, Lebanon, IL, a MA degree from Fontbonne University and a MFA degree from Studio Art Centers International - Florence, Italy / Fontbonne University. Kristin has taught art in public and private schools in Illinois, Missouri and Texas and has taken students on educational art tours in Europe. Her own artistic experience includes commissioned artwork as well as 2-D, 3-D and Fiber Art exhibits nationally and internationally.

Joanne Kluba is a St. Louis book artist, specializing in fine bindings, art books and custom books. She has a BFA from Webster University and has been studying bookmaking for 10 years. Her books have been exhibited in France and throughout the United States. Her works may also be viewed at www.paperbirds.com.

 

Noel Leicht is a studio metals artist and writer whose narrative contemporary jewelry tells a story. She learned metalsmithing at Craft Alliance and has studied with a variety of artists at Arrowmont School for Arts and Crafts. She exhibits her work in shows around the St. Louis area. Robert Longyear received his BFA in design and metalsmithing from University of Kansas in 2000. He brings down the hammer with organic styles and strives to define an intuitive juncture between himself and his students.

Denise Mandel was commissioned to weave "Papal Coat of Arms" tapestry for the Pope's visit to St. Louis. This is the fifth work by Denise purchased by the Cathedral Basilica. She earned her BFA at Kansas City Art Institute and has produced an instructional video entitled, "Creating a Weaving Canvas."

Cathy McBride is a painter, photographer and fiber artist, and graduated from Southwest Missouri with a BS in Art Education. Even during the 25 years Cathy spent in the cosmetic industry, she was painting and taking photographs. She began learning about Shibori in classes at Craft Alilance and has studied with Yoshiko Wada and Ana Lisa Hedstrom.

Ann Miklovic received her BA in fine art from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.  She apprenticed with a jeweler at Blondstone, a gallery in San Diego, CA for over two years, while showing her own work in that gallery.  Ann has worked with children as an artist and educator since 1997.

Kitty Mollman received her BA in Art History from Wellesley College and her M.Ed from Harvard University. She has been a potter for many years and four years ago discovered the joys of working with fused glass in a class at Craft Alliance. Her work is exhibited at several area galleries.

Nikki Nation received her BFA in metalsmithing from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville while studying under Paulette Meyers. She has experience in production work and teaching children and adults.

Natalie Nauert received her BFA from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in textile art.  She has also studied photography abroad in a small village in Ireland.  Natalie has experience with both two-dimensional and three-dimensional art using found objects and mixed media in her own work.  Natalie is excited to explore art with kids and to help them find the excitement art can bring to their own lives.

Sam Oldham taught Summer Camp with CA in the summer 2007.  He is in the Fine Arts program at Forest Park and he hopes to go in to industrial design focusing on Toy Design.  He has also been an assistant teacher for an elementary school in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. 

Rebecca Osborne received her BA in jewelry design from Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington.  Prior to this, she received her Associate Degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, NY.  Her work focuses on layering techniques with different metals, and has been exhibited on both coasts.

Michael Parrett earned a BA in graphic design and photography from Webster University and his MFA from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville while studying with Paulette Myers.  Michael exhibits his jewelry, flatware, hollowware and sculptures locally and nationally and has recently been published in the Lark Book “500 Metal Vessels: Contemporary Explorations of Containment”.

Joan Powell studied fine art at Rhode Island School of Design and received a BA in ceramics from Webster University in 1985. Her experience includes several years as a graphic designer, painting, drawing, and ceramics. She teaches clay classes to people of all ages, has participated in workshops around the country and exhibits in California and St. Louis.

Batya Rich began taking classes at Craft Alliance five years ago beginning with pottery, moving to metal and final moving to glass.  The last two years, she has focused mainly on glass fusing and lampworking with a specialty in Judiaca.  Batya taught camp with us in the summer of 2007 and has been a glass monitor at Craft Alliance since 2006. 

Luanne Rimel, currently the Senior Director of Education & Exhibition Programs at Craft Alliance, earned an MFA in Fibers from SIU Edwardsville and has taught numerous workshops, college classes and residencies in fiber-related media. Her combined silk and photographic work is exhibited locally, nationally and internationally in many private collections.

Emily Robbins learned the stained glass craft from her grandfather and has gained further experience through commission work in large scale windows and glass and tile mosaic work. Emily is a faculty member of Craft Alliance, teaching classes in stained glass and received her BFA from Maryville University.

Carol Rominger is a studio artist who began her ceramics education at Craft Alliance.  She teaches all ages and works with the Community Outreach Program and Summer Camps.  Her two and three dimensional works have been exhibited throughout the region.

Melissa Schmidt has a BA from National Louis University. She has been working with glass for 12 years. Her glass jewelry can be viewed online at www.guild.com as well as in Craft Alliance's Gallery Shop.

Mary Smith is a studio glass artist with a concentration in lampworking and jewelry design. She spent 20 years as a graphic designer in St. Louis, MO prior to becoming a full time studio artist in 2000. She holds two first place international jewelry design awards (Saul Bell Design Award) in the bead category for 2006, 2007. She is the first jewelry designer to win the award 2 consecutive years in a row! She was a St. Louis Art Fair exhibitor in 2007. In July 2005, she was filmed and featured on HGTV. Nancy Spence received her BS in Art Education from Eastern Illinois University and her Masters Degree in Art Therapy from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. In both two-dimensional works and trhee-dimensional clay and mixed media sculpture, she tries to instill in her students a sense of adventure to experiment with the materials, and the freedom to find their own unique styles.

Sukanya Subramanian is an artist and an art instructor whose classes emphasize on expanding her student's creativity. She teaches her students to draw and paint with confidence, create complex color relations, balance compositions and determined forms and shapes.

Yuko Suga received an Intense Minor in Metals from Washington University under the tutelage of Heikki Seppa and a Masters in Occupational Therapy form the Washington University School of Medicine. She works with children with special needs and facilitates skill development through art, play and movement. Her work in metals is exhibited both locally and nationally.

Claire Taylor is a metal artist specializing in Precious Metal Clay. She has studied under various artists including Barbara Becker Simon and Tim McCreight. Claire produces and sells her work independently under the label Taylor-Made Jewelry.

Erin Taylor holds a BA from the University of Kansas in Architecture. He has studied glass blowing and lampworking, and teaches at Craft Alliance. He is a current member of the St. Louis Lampworking Society.

Bernhard Voss has worked with wood all his adult life as a cabinet maker, carpenter, shop teacher and wood turner. He taught in the Fine Art Department of the University of Missouri for over 8 years. His turned wood pieces are currently carried in the Craft Alliance Gallery Shop.

Janice Wallace holds an AD from Penn Valley Community College and a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in drawing and printmaking. Her work appeared in the International Print Exchange at the Museum School of Fine Arts, Boston, MA.

Katie Wang received her BFA in Studio Arts from Maryville University in Saint Louis.  She works conceptionally incorporating printmaking, photography, ceramics, and sculpture in her work.  Her internship last summer with the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art affirmed her excitement of art-based community involvement. She eagerly looks forward to sharing her experience and skills with students.

Erica Weinberg learned hot glass in the studios of Craft Alliance and has taught children int he Glass Bead camp programs and adults in glass workshops. Her own glass and wire creations can be found in several venues in the St. Louis area.
Thomas Wiggins studied for six years in South America before returning to the US to complete his BFA degree at Kent State University in Kent, OH. He teaches wheel throwing at Craft Alliance and has been awarded a Massachusetts Cultural Council Fellowship and a NEA/NEFA Artist Fellowship.
Karen Woodward received her BA in Art History from the University of Texas in Austin and her MFA in sculpture from Washington University. Recently, Karen was selected to study at the Pilchuck Glass School near Seattle and the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. This year Karen’s work was featured in the New Glass Review 25 and Corina’s Passing the Flame book series. Additional images of Karen’s work can be viewed at www.karenwoodwardstudios.com.
Cindy Wrobel has exhibited her innovative wire and bead creations at the Smithsonian Art Expo and the Laumeier Art Fair. Her work has appeared in FiberArts and Ornament Magazines and is in several private collections.

Sue Wuest has been exploring many different art media throughout her artistic life. Lampwork became the focus of her creativity as soon as the introduction was made over 5 years ago. She has studied with Jim Smircich, Corina Tettinger and Jeri Warhaftig. Her work is sold locally and has been featured in Corina's Spotlight On book series. She is currently the Treasurer of the St. Louis Lampworkers Society.
