Craft Alliance Mural Arts Program
The Mural Arts Program collaborations result in permanent ceramic tile
murals that serve to communicate a myriad of concepts and themes pertinent
to the schools within which they were constructed.
Objectives
- To provide the opportunity for underserved students to work with
professional artists in the creation of a large ceramic tile mural
for permanent installation on the exterior of the designated school.
- Provide exposure, enrichment and education in the arts through the
Mural Arts Program.
- To provide the opportunity for students to present
and exercise ideas to their peers and the overall scholastic community,
connecting their
work to a larger context.
- To provide a creative vehicle for students
and teachers in Missouri schools to address the required Missouri
Show-Me Performance Standards.
- Develop an active understanding, utilizing the residency theme,
which demonstrates that literacy is more than being able to read and
write.
Demonstrate that meaning is the core of literacy.
We would like to thank Emerson for their continued support of the Mural
Arts Program, enabling Craft Alliance to further our mission of providing
inspiration and education in fine contemporary craft to the entire community
through exhibition, sales and instruction.
The Mural Arts Program residencies taking place during the 2005-2006
school year were collaborations with Oak Hill Elementary School and St. Louis City Juvenile Detention Center.
