Craft Alliance nurtures and inspires creativity and engagement, educating and enriching our community through contemporary craft.
What We Do
Craft Alliance empowers you to experience the craft of our time by exhibiting artists' work, educating all levels of students, and offering free classes and family programs. Craft (the making of objects in woods, metals, fibers, glass, and clay) is both an ancient tradition and a site for innovation, adapting to new materials and responding to the ever-changing human experience.
Hello Delmar Maker District!
Posted: March 05, 2020
After more than 50 years located in the heart of the Delmar Loop we are preparing to make our move to the emerging Delmar Maker District in the Fall of 2020. There is a great deal of activity happening as the building at 5080 Delmar gets prepared to become our new home. Since our announcement at the end of January, planning and design has been underway and initial renovation work on the building has been initiated. It may not look like much at the moment, but you will see the building transform over the coming months, with exterior changes to contemporize the look and a completely new interior being constructed to meet the needs of our community. The space will include studios for ceramics, metals, wood, glass, fiber, 2D and digital, plus a retail space and a beautiful contemporary exhibition gallery as well as administrative space. One thing we are excited about is preliminary plans to include two large skylights to bring beautiful north light into the interior space.
So much history has been created within the walls our current Delmar Loop location. As we look back, from beginning students learning creative craft skills to fine craftspeople honing their technique, from local artists and students to nationally renowned artisans, we are proud that our home has fostered lifelong relationships and meaningful conversations in the advancement of contemporary craft. Looking forward, as we make our plans to craft a new future, we are passionate about creating an exciting new environment to continue this tradition.
As we move forward over the coming months we will strive to keep everyone informed of the progress on the renovation of our new home, plans for the move and, ultimately, the Grand Opening in the Fall. We are thankful to everyone in our Craft Alliance community for your support and excitement.
