Artist Statement

In my practice, I examine my position as a second-generation American in the Midwest. Through sculpture, installation, and photography, I explore themes of isolation, intergenerational trauma, and labor. I create nontraditional portraits — both figurative and non-figurative— that reference personal and familial narratives. I am interested in taking concealed experiences and making them conspicuous. Using elements of self-deprecation, my work illustrates both the humor and pain of these experiences as a means of validation and building empathy.
