Raku Firing

Developed in Japan during the 16th century, the simple surfaces of Raku typify the subtle aesthetics of Japan. Translated as “enjoy” and dating back to the 16th century Japanese Tea Ceremony, Raku is an adventure. Learn hand building and wheel throwing techniques and experience the excitement of the fast firing that produces metallic lusters and crackling distinctive to Raku. Experienced potters may bring green ware pots ready to terra sig onto, or beginners can make their pots in class. .*Prerequisite: Completion of both a wheel and hand building class.
