Advanced Throwing: Stemware is a 1.5 hours Zoom Workshop/Demonstration with Clay instructor, Mary Henderson. See the process of creating a drinking goblet from start to finished greenware. Working in her own studio, Mary will demonstrate her technique for throwing the stem directly onto the bowl of the goblet. Time permitting, other methods for creating a stemmed cup may be demonstrated and discussed. This is a demonstration workshop with opportunity for questions and discussion.

Advanced Throwing: Closed & Hollow Forms is a 3 session Wednesday, 1.5 hours Zoom Workshop/Demonstration with Clay instructor, Mary Henderson. Throwing a closed form on the wheel can be fun & challenging. Watch Craft Alliance artist and faculty, Mary Henderson demonstrate how to throw a closed form. She will show how these forms can be used to create a honey jar, a sugar bowl, and a creamer. This will be a demonstration workshop with opportunity for questions and discussion.

Wheel Throwing: Clay Lid Basics

Wheel Throwing: Clay Lid Basics is a 1.5 hours Zoom Workshop/Demonstration with Clay instructor, Mary Henderson. Mary will demonstrate throwing & trimming the two most common lid types for functional ware. She will lead a discussion on the advantages of each lid type use. This is a demonstration with opportunity for questions and discussion. If you have a home studio, please feel free to Craft At Home along with this workshop!

Origami Puzzle Purse

Origami: Puzzle Purse

Tuesday, June 30 from 10:00-11:30 am

In this workshop, we’ll make a draft Puzzle Purse at 4 x 4 inches to brainstorm imagery/text, then move on to a full size 12 x 12 inches version. Since this is an old-fashioned letter form, we’ll work with a dip pen and ink to do some hand-lettering and freehand floral drawings. Then we’ll work back into our designs with dry media to add some color, and, for a final touch, make custom petal envelopes for our Puzzle Purses!

Learn how to roll out, cut & piece together a simple mug using simple tools you’re likely to have at home. Mary will take you step by step through this construction process. This basic slab construction method can be built on to create a large range of forms in clay.

Introduction to Comics

Introduction to Comics

This workshop will cover figure drawing basics, using forms to draw objects, creating a character and first installment of the character’s comic strip. Supplemental instructional packet will be provided via download. Students who would like to develop these concepts further can sign up for the Comics Capers class to create a superhero and learn the steps in how to create a comic book.

Stitches + Text: Colorful Embroidery is a 2 session workshop, meeting for a 1.5 hours Zoom Workshop on Thursdays with Fiber instructor, Annie Darlin. A class for embroidery enthusiasts and beginners, this workshop will cover basic stitches and helpful tips and tricks to begin the art of embroidery. A sampler will be created during the workshop to help master techniques and stitches.

Clay Head Workshop

Clay Head Workshop

Friday + Saturday, June 26 + 27 from 9:30-11:00 am

Explore the emotive, narrative, and psychological potential of animal heads in clay. Drawing inspiration from personal experience, archetypes, and observations in the natural and manufactured world, students will create small heads. Demonstrations will cover slab construction and anatomical figure sculpting techniques. These strategies can also be applied to sculpting human heads.

Layering Paint + Embroidery

Layering Paint + Embroidery

Tuesday, June 16-30 from 4:00-5:00 pm

Combine watercolors and basic embroidery techniques to create a texturally rich artwork full of depth and atmosphere. We will begin by tracing or drawing a desired image and transferring it to our fabric, then using watercolor to create a colorful base layer. Multiple embroidery stitches will be taught and demonstrated to add detail, outlines, depth, and contrast on top of the dry paint.
