January 11 – March 17, 2019
Opening Reception: Friday, January 11, 6-8pm
Portraiture has been defined as creating the likeness of a person. The Ancients Greeks made portraits of everyone from gods to common people. During the Renaissance there were portraits of royals and nobles; the ones who could afford the portrait. It is the 20th century portraiture culture that has embraced all ideas of identity and expression. Today, there are so many different portals to communication and ways of introducing who we are and what we stand for. The works in this exhibition speak in a very fresh and relevant voice. Some are representations of iconic figures in history and others are an introspective look at identity.
With the snow falling and predictions of heavy accumulation into the evening, we have decided to close both of our locations early and cancel tonight's opening reception for Current Profile at our Delmar Loop Gallery.
Our staff offices and the Gallery Shop will close at 4pm to give everyone ample opportunity to get home safely. We hope everyone stays safe and warm.
Tomorrow's (Saturday) workshops with Richard W. James and Kate Anderson ARE STILL HAPPENING. b We are excited to welcome both artists to the studios.
