2021 Artists-In-Residence Exhibition

Exhibition Details

For the last twelve years, Craft Alliance has welcomed emerging and mid-career artists who work with craft materials from all across the country to join our community of makers as our resident artists. Our Artists-In-Residence Program supports artists who want to develop their artistic investigations in a collaborative, community-based arts center. This residency program is dedicated to nurturing makers, fostering professional development, and allowing for time and space to create. We encourage artists to explore and expand on ideas and materials within their studio practice. We are proud to present the work of our 2021 Whitaker Foundation Artists-In-Residence Douglas Dale and Sarah Knight.

As Craft Alliance was settling into its new location in the Delmar Maker District after moving in September 2020, Dale and Knight began their residencies just five months later on February 1, 2021. With 6 larger studios, the beautiful Staenberg Gallery, and contemporary craft gallery shop, we were very excited to activate the new Artists-In-Residence studio. Dale and Knight have been immersed in our community, within our building and outside our walls. They have both worked with our teen program, behind-the-scenes on major events, and have assisted faculty and students in our education center. For our students, they have offered a window into the creative and professional lives of artists. It is the energy of our resident artists that ignites our studios and transforms the craft conversation. We thank the Whitaker Foundation for their generous support, as well as all who engage with our artists and understand the passion of creating with your own hands.
