Artists-In-Residence 10 year Anniversary Exhibition
August 24 – October 21, 2018
Opening reception: Friday, August 24, 6-8pm
Craft Alliance is a place for makers – we thrive on it, and for over 50 years we have supported artists at every possible stage of their creative careers. But we would regularly ask ourselves, what is most critical to an artist’s success? We believe that artists require—more than anything—the time and the space to explore their art. It’s that simple. 10 years ago, with that in mind, we introduced the Artist-In-Residence Program, providing free studio space, equipment, and a robust community for artists to exchange ideas and concentrate on growing their practice.
The Craft Alliance Artist-In-Residence studios are located in our Nancy and Ken Kranzberg Education Center in our Grand Center location, where the 3 private artist studios all spill out into our multipurpose space, allowing the artists to constantly interact with each other and organically provide each other with support. They bounce ideas off each other, learn new techniques and even collaborate on work together. This allows for yet another layer of community to build organically within our walls.
Our emerging and mid-career applicants come from across the country, and are selected during a competitive selection process. Exceptional in its diversity of material, and breadth of ideas, this 10 Year Anniversary Exhibition celebrates the artists who have participated in our residency program since the beginning. All the work in this exhibition continues to push boundaries and challenge conventional notions of craft. Above all, these artists are dedicated to getting into their studios and making.
