Myths & Allegories: Travis Lawrence & Elizabeth Madden
March 31-May 27, 2023
Myths & Allegories pairs two St. Louis-based artists working in very different media to create bodies of work that share an interest in symbolism and allegory, as well as a deep commitment to process. Elizabeth Madden creates incredibly detailed embroideries based on dreams or visions in reaction to her personal life or events in the world around her. Influenced by Jungian psychology and mythology, Travis Lawrence creates prints out of carved woodblocks that are rich in symbolism. He draws on imagery found in medieval manuscripts and tarot cards to explore ideas of spirituality and mysticism.
