Refine your techniques and push your creative boundaries in this advanced-level course designed for students with prior metalsmithing experience. In Advanced Metalsmithing, you’ll work on independent or guided projects while exploring more complex techniques such as stone setting, advanced soldering, hinge construction, hollow forms, and surface embellishment.

With support from a professional metalsmith, students will receive personalized instruction tailored to their goals, whether you're developing a cohesive body of work, preparing a portfolio, or mastering specific skills. Emphasis will be placed on design development, craftsmanship, and finishing techniques.

This is the perfect course for students ready to deepen their technical skillset and creative voice in the metals studio.

Prerequisite: Prior experience in metalsmithing or completion of an intermediate-level course.

This advanced two-week course is intended for students who have completed Casting 1 or an equivalent introductory casting course. Each student will prepare, sprue, and cast one flask using the lost-wax casting method. Bring your fully carved wax models or natural objects ready for casting to the first session. Instruction will focus on refining professional spruing techniques, investing, burnout, and centrifugal casting. This workshop is perfect for those looking to build on foundational skills and complete personal casting projects. Prerequisite: Students must have completed Casting 1 at Craft Alliance (or have comparable experience with instructor permission). Safety Note: This workshop is for ages 16+. If you require special accommodations for this workshop, please contact grant.benoit@craftalliance.org. All materials are included in your materials fee. All necessary safety gear will be provided, including safety glasses, gloves, and aprons. You must wear closed-toe shoes and natural fiber clothing, and long hair must be tied back to ensure your safety while working in the studio.
