Position

The Community Programs Manager is responsible for designing, organizing, facilitating, and evaluating all community programs. Programs should provide exposure, enrichment, and education in craft techniques to students of all ages and skill levels through a broad range of experiences onsite and offsite. Community Programs Manager works with a core group of faculty members and collaborates broadly with members of the Education department.

 

Strong Candidates Will Have:

  • Master’s degree in art education, art therapy, visual arts with teaching experience or comparable overall experience. Minimum requirement is Bachelor of Arts with two years work experience.
  • 2-3 years experience in community programming, education/arts education related fields, or program administration.
  • Two years minimum teaching experience with a variety of students in both traditional and
    non-traditional settings.
  • Experience or background in craft or visual arts.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong resource and time management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and implement programs or projects.
  • Office computer skills (Microsoft Suite, Google Workspace).
  • The ability to travel within the St. Louis region.
  • The ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Design, staff, and supervise ongoing core community programs
    • Free Family Saturdays, a studio experience for youth and families
    • Crafting a Future, a studio and portfolio experience for high school students
    • ArtSmarts, a studio experience field trip for area schools
    • School Residencies, in-depth studio experiences with
    • Sumner High School and other select schools
    • Other community programs and projects on and off-site
  • Create and submit material needs, repair needs, and studio inventories with the Facilities Manager and Studio Technician in a timely manner.
  • Work with partners in developing and creating contracts for partnership programs.
  • Recruit and review applications for Crafting a Future.
  • Collaborate with the Education team on building outreach opportunities to new communities.
  • Prepare and share programming numbers, evaluations, and appropriate data with the Development department to meet grantors’ requirements.
  • Code and submit invoices, receipts and purchase orders in a timely fashion to the Finance Department.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education in establishing a budget and expense tracking for the Community Programs unit.
  • Attends all Education meetings and staff meetings.
  • Researches local community events and organizes and facilitates a Craft Alliance presence at community events, festivals, or other partnerships. Trains volunteers to facilitate. Coordinates with appropriate departments for marketing collateral or supplies.
  • Communicates regularly with schools and educators on program expectations, travel, and logistics for Community Programs.
  • Recruits and staffs ongoing instructor needs both onsite and off.
  • Notifies and tracks students who are approved for financial assistance and or scholarships. Works with the Registrar on registering students.
  • Programmatic support as assigned, including but not limited to: Substituting for Teachers (Community Programs), on-site facilitation of programs and mural installations, and hosting Third Friday, assistance with Education-based programming activities.


Relationships:

  • Reports to the Education Director.
    Community Programs is a unit within the Education department that includes studios, tuition-based programs, and the artist-in-residence program.
  • Supervises Community Programs teaching artists and faculty.
  • Regular communication with Studio Technician and Registrar on scheduling and studio needs.
  • Regular communications with the Marketing and Design Manager and Advancement Coordinator on advertising needs, programmatic grants, and reporting.
