This is an introduction to the techniques, materials, and tools used to make glass marbles on a torch. Students will melt and shape glass in a 3,000ºF flame, using both hands to twirl the glass until it forms a perfect sphere, incorporating different colors and patterns throughout the process. Students will learn heat control, cold vs. hot connections, and how to use graphite marble molds.

In this fun-filled workshop, students will use Bullseye Frit to create fun designs inside of Glaskolben, condensed blown-glass tubes. Using torches to heat and melt the glass, you will be able to blow your own Christmas ornaments! Maximum size ~3" in diameter. Icicles and candy canes are also an option.

Dive into the world of glass bead making in this fun and fast-paced 3-hour workshop! You’ll learn how to safely operate a torch to melt glass and create perfectly round beads. As you gain hands-on experience, you'll explore different shapes and enhance your beads with decorative techniques such as adding dots, striping colors, and pulling glass stringers (heating and pulling glass to create a thin elongated piece of glass) to create unique designs. Whether you're a beginner or looking to expand your skills, this workshop will provide you with the tools and techniques to craft a collection of beautiful, one-of-a-kind glass beads. By the end of the session, you’ll have a treasure trove of beads to wear or use in your own jewelry creations! Beads will go through an annealing process to temper the glass for strength—your instructor will set a pickup time. Traveling? We can mail your beads to you! Safety Note: This workshop is for ages 16+. If you require special accommodation for this workshop, please contact grant.benoit@craftalliance.org. All materials are included in your materials fee. All necessary safety gear will be provided, including safety glasses, gloves, and aprons. You must wear close-toed shoes, and natural fiber clothing and long hair must be tied back to ensure your safety while working in the studio.

Students will spend 6 classes sculpting various species of cacti and succulents out of glass using a stationary torch.  Both soft glass (104 COE) and borosilicate glass (33 COE) will be used to achieve different effects.  This is a beginner-friendly class, but intermediate-to-advanced lampworkers are welcome!  Techniques include mixing and blending colors, layering, encasing, adding mini flower implosions, using tools to shape the glass, and using hand-pulled cane to add embellishments.  On the last day, you will also learn how to etch glass and process the pieces, attaching "root systems" and mixing gravel with epoxy for a mixed media project.

Students will explore the dynamic reactions that occur when Effetre glass from the island of Murano is combined with silver and copper leaf, creating stunning surface effects—ranging from soft robin’s egg blues to shimmering galactic nebula patterns. Through flame chemistry and layering techniques, you’ll learn how to apply precious metal accents to molten glass, enhancing both color and texture. You’ll also experiment with fine silver and gold wire, melting and embedding it into your beads to create beautifully textured, metallic surfaces. This workshop is perfect for lampworkers ready to elevate their beadwork with precious materials and advanced decorative techniques.

Dive into the world of glass fish, coral, cephalopods, crustaceans, and jellyfish! Use sculpting tools, complex cane patterns, and heat control to ensure your projects go swimmingly.  In this 6-week course, students will go from basic beginner-friendly techniques to more advanced ways to sculpt soft glass (104 COE) into realistic animals.  On the last day, you will also learn how to mount your glass sea creatures on stands, hang them in a waterless aquarium, and suspend them in miniature specimen jars.

Discover the mesmerizing technique of glass implosion in this borosilicate lampworking workshop focused on creating vibrant, dimensional pendants. Students will use boro cane, stringers, frit, and fuming to draw intricate designs onto a base of clear glass. Then, using intense heat and gravity, those surface patterns are imploded—folding inward and shrinking into stunning floral, cosmic, or abstract forms suspended within glass. Once formed, your implosion can be shaped into a wearable pendant, kept as a cabochon, or transformed into sculptural accents like glass turtles or other miniature forms. This workshop is perfect for students with some lampworking experience who want to explore depth, detail, and visual illusion in flame-formed glass.
